Studied Accountancy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he graduated with a first class honours in 1983. He attended the International Executive Programme (IEP) at IMP Lausanne, Switzerland where he studied Change Management.

Emerhor trained as a Chartered Accountant at the renowned Pricewaterhouse Cooper (PwC) and later joined the banking industry in 1986, first with CITI Bank (Nigeria International Bank), Fidelity Bank, GT Bank and as Managing Director of Crystal Bank (Now part of UBA).

He is a front-line member of African Business Leadership Forum. A Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN); Fellow, Institute of Credit and Risk Management of Nigeria; and Fellow, Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies. He is also a member, Institute of Marketing Consultants; as well as a Fellow, Institute of Directors.

Emerhor is known as a turnaround expert due to his involvement/leadership in many change management processes both in the banking and manufacturing sectors. He led investors to acquire the then Jubilee Insurance Company and resuscitated/transformed it into the current Standard Alliance Insurance Group. Similarly, he led investors to acquire the then Comet Merchant Bank that later became FinBank/First Inland Bank Plc and today part of FCMB Plc. He also led investors to acquire Vitamalt Plc which led to its re-positioning.

He was the Chairman of Transcorp Hotels Ltd, owners of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, from 2008 to 2017, CEO of Standard Alliance Group and also holds Directorships in a number of other companies including Sun trust Oil Limited, and Connexxion Group.

Emerhor is currently the Chairman of the Board of the University Teaching Hospital (UITH) Ilorin, Kwara State.

Emerhor trained most financial controllers in the banking sector. He has received various awards. He is an Officer of the Order of Niger (OON), and a holder of the prestigious Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Leadership award among others.
